5 Things to do on Easter Sunday with Kids

Easter Sunday is such an important Sunday as a Christian family. When choosing activities, make sure that you are keeping the focus on Jesus and his resurrection. With that in mind, here are 5 things to do on Easter Sunday with kids.

1. Go to church

The best thing to do on Easter Sunday is go to church and worship God and celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus with your church family! If you do not have a church, search your local area and try to get connected. If for some reason you can’t attend in person, maybe you can livestream a service the morning of Easter. It’s so important to get together with other believers often and especially on this special day. Teach your children about the resurrection and how important it is to us as Christians.

2. Resurrection Eggs

You can get these resurrection eggs to share the story of Easter with your kids in a fun and engaging way. This is something that I love to do with my children each year to teach them again about the Biblical details of the resurrection. There are a dozen of the eggs and we usually do a separate hunt of just these eggs and then open them one by one and read through the story and discuss each part of the story while looking at the things in the eggs to help better understand.

For example, one egg contains a crown of thorns, and then you read the corresponding page which tells about that Bible verse and what happened with the crown of thorns in the Bible.

Reading through while opening the eggs leads you through the Biblical account of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is such a great way to get the kids really engaged as you teach them about Jesus and keep the focus on Him on Resurrection Sunday.

3. Egg Hunt

Another fun thing to do on Easter Sunday, of course, is an egg hunt! You can do this at your church, with friends and family, or at home. We have had both indoor and outdoor hunts depending on the weather and ages of our kids. It’s so fun to hide the eggs and watch the kids run around trying to find them all. They absolutely love it.

I don’t like to overdo the candy. I personally do some chocolate and then I try to find other things. In the past, I have cut up sheets of stickers. This is fun, because you can get stickers that you know your kids will be into based on whatever they are interested in currently. Also, you can use coins and let them add to their piggy banks. It’s fun to have a golden egg per kid too, maybe with a dollar bill or some other extra special prize.

4. Dye Boiled Eggs

Boil a dozen eggs or more, depending on how many kids you are dying egged with, and dye them! Amazing memories can be made with your babies by gathering around the table together and having fun making these eggs beautiful. You can get a kit to dye them, and dip them in the dye. You can also decorate them with stickers. Dying eggs is a great way to be creative together with the added bonus of a yummy, healthy snack!

5. Dress up and Take Pictures

I think this is a fun time to get everyone all dressed up and take pictures! My mama always got me a new dress for Easter. I remember how excited I used to be as we would go pick it out. Like she made it special for me, I like to get my kids all dressed up too.

It’s so fun to make it special and to really celebrate. While everyone is looking their best, why not take a little extra time to set up some photos. You can do as little or as much as you want with these. If you want to make a weekend of it, you could do some pictures the day before.

Just make sure to take some pictures of and your family. It’s fun to see how much they’ve grown from year to year. Hopefully, this has given you some ideas of things to do on Easter Sunday. Most importantly, keep your focus on Jesus and enjoy this time with your family!
