Write the Vision: Align Your Goals with God’s will
1. Write the vision
“…Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”
from Habakkuk 2:2 ESV

Do you have a goal in mind? Do you have something that the Lord has laid on your heart for you to do?
If so, then you need to write it down. When you write it down, you’re going to make it plain. What does this mean? Sometimes when your goal is just a vague thought, you don’t actually begin to move toward it. I think when God said in that verse that when you write it and make it plain, “he may run who reads it,” it makes you realize that when that goal is plain and clear for everyone to see, you know where you’re going. And when you know where you’re going, it’s a lot easier to get there. You need to have a goal in mind so that you can achieve it.
2. Align Your Goals with God’s Will
When setting your goals, you want to make sure that you are aligning them with God’s will for your life. Any major decision—like whether to get married, whether to start a new job, whether to go to school, what to go to school for, all of these decisions should always be taken to God first. Seek God and ask Him to guide you, and He will.
Ask the Lord to lead you through His Holy Spirit and do your best to align your actions with where you feel God is leading you. Ask God to close doors that He doesn’t want you to go through and ask Him to open doors that are right for you and that align with His will. Always pray for His will above your own. When we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these other things will be added unto us. Keep God first, and the rest will fall into place.

3. Make Your Vision Actionable
Once you do have a goal in mind and you have made it plain on tablets, next, you need to come up with actionable steps toward your goal. Break down the steps into chunks that you can accomplish and set realistic timelines of when you can get these things accomplished. Then, put an actual date with it. Have a date on the calendar in mind when you would like to have the steps accomplished so that you actually have a concrete goal.
4. Work with Your Spouse
If you’re married, do this with your partner so that you can work together toward achieving this goal. Pray together about the goal and check in regularly with progress. Talk about where you are going and if the goal still fits and what kind of progress you’ve made toward it.
5. Dream Big and Trust God
Don’t expect the goal to seem perfectly achievable today. Dream big—our God is not limited by our own thoughts or abilities, so we can dream big and trust God. Make sure that what we’re dreaming is always for His glory, but also don’t limit Him because our God has no limits. Write the vision down today and start running toward your goal!
