Building Furniture

As a homemaker/stay at home mom, I’ve been a lover of furniture and pretty much all things involved in setting up a welcoming home pretty much forever. I became frustrated with the lack of quality from affordable “stylish” options. I realized that well made furniture is pretty much impossible to find at what I consider to be a reasonable price.

I love to build and create things any way, so I decided to just start building it myself. I searched high and low for plans for my first furniture building project that wasn’t just pre-built by a manufacturer.

Building a Table

My husband and I tag teamed this one- a table. I found the plans at Ana-White.com. They made the process so easy for us. I submitted the picture to her, and she featured it in her community brag posts section, you can see it here.

These are the plans by Ana White that we used for the dining table. We built a very large table. You can adjust the size to what works best for your space if you want to build the same one.

Building a Bed

The next furniture project I decided to do was a bed for my three year old. After the table turned out so well and was so fun to build, I decided to go with another Ana White plan. This is the article by her for the one I chose, which can be built in various sizes.

This bed was such an easy and fun build. I’m so happy with how it turned out. I decided to paint it green, with leftover paint I had from when I had painted an accent wall in my powder room.

For both of these projects, the miter saw was the tool I used for cutting the wood. I also used a drill, and for the bed I used a brad nailer.

I hope to build more things in the future, but just sharing to show that even with no experience, you can just jump in and try! Building furniture allows you the opportunity to have solid wood furniture at a fraction of the cost and you can customize it to be exactly what you need. Go for it!
