How to Make Homemade Banana Bread

Banana bread is one of my kids’ favorite things I bake! When my oldest catches bananas starting to turn brown, he usually starts asking if I can make banana bread. It’s pretty easy and fast to make, and everyone loves it! Here’s how to make homemade banana bread for you and your family:

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 ripe bananas (brown in the outside is okay- but I prefer no brown on the inside)
  • 1/2 cup salted butter (melted)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Here is Banana Bread that has just finished baking.

Directions:

  1. Grease a loaf pan (9×5) and preheat the oven to 350 F.
  2. Put the bananas in a bowl and use a fork to mash them up and mix in the 1/2 cup of melted butter.
  3. Add 1 tsp vanilla extract, 2/3 cup sugar, and 2 eggs and whisk.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt and fold it in.
  5. Pour the dough into the greased loaf pan and bake at 350 F for 60 minutes.
Use a gentle sawing motion to slice banana bread, starting in the middle.

Once your homemade banana bread is finished baking, I recommend putting it in a small platter or plate and cutting it using a bread knife. Also, I sort of do a sawing motion on the crust on top and then back and forth through the rest of the bread to get nice slices.

Cutting from the middle first helps keep leftovers moist.

If you don’t plan on eating it all the first day, save the end pieces and cut from the middle first. Shove the two ends back together and store as a new smaller loaf until it’s all gone. By doing that, you can keep it moist while you store it. Enjoy!
